This course is the second part in a two semester course and includes the topics of the human body systems, the human life cycle and the stages of growth and development, drugs and substance abuse, diseases and disorders, as well as safety and environmental health.

Upon completion of this course, the student is awarded 5 credits. Each credit corresponds to 15 hours of study. Of course, some students work more quickly than others, and some can devote more hours to study, so some students are able to complete the course in an accelerated rate.


In this module, students gain a comprehension of the following:

  • To understand what personal hygiene is, as well as the care for skin, hair, nails, teeth, eyes, and ears.
  • To identify the causes and treatments for acne.
  • The knowledge of the body systems, including the skeletal, muscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory, lymphatic, digestive, excretory, reproductive, and endocrine systems.
  • A basic understanding of the human life cycle, including heredity and genetics, as well as the stages of life.
  • The understanding of the perils of drugs and substance abuse, and the positives of living a drug free life.
  • The most common diseases and disorders, including STIs, cancers, cardiovascular disease, allergies, asthma, diabetes, arthritis, and other physical and mental challenges.
  • A working understanding of safety and environmental health, including safety at home, school, or outdoors, safety on the road, first aid basics, as well as emergency and disaster preparedness.
